The Delaware Valley Havanese Club (DVHC) formerly North East Regional Havanese Club (NERHC) is a specialty breed club who's mission is to educate both the Havanese exhibitor and pet owner about the breed; it's special needs; it's health concerns; and to provide mentorship to new havanese owners, pet and show homes alike.
Club Profile:
Founded in 1999 by a group of 8 members, DVHC nee NERHC was formed in response to the expressed need for a forum in which local Havanese owners could meet and share information about the Havanese breed. At that time there were no fully functional local clubs to provide such a venue. Our initial goals seemed modest at the time and, now almost, five years later our membership has grown and includes: active exhibitors, pet owners, supporters and those who simply enjoy the camaraderie this special breed seems to produce. All eight of the founding members, all novices with the exception of one has proceeded to finish their own champions. Some have continued to show and breed; others are simply happy to have had this experience and continue on to help other newcomers.
Objectives of the club include:
1)to support and encourage exhibition of the havanese in shows and responsible breeding practices.
2) to protect the breed and to educate the public through its quarterly meetings, seminars, supported entries at shows in the area.
3) an annual picnic/fun match to introduce new havanese owners to established club members and provide seminars for grooming, handling, measurement, ring etiquette, health concerns.
4) to disseminate information about health issues in the breed and to encourage and make available information about health clinics and health seminars.
5) supporting Havanese Rescue, INC. in any way it can, tangibly and intangibly.
DVHC supports the code of ethics of the parent club, the Havanese Club of America, and the American Kennel Club.
