Founded in 1999 the North East Regional Havanese Club, or NERHC as we fondly referred to it, knew that one day it would have to make a decision about its future. By the time of the June 2004 meeting the membership total reached into the 80s. That year the membership voted to move forward in pursuit of AKC Lincensure and recognition as well as formal recogniton from the parent club, the Havanese Club of America(HCA). The first step in this process was approval of a name by the American Kennel Club or AKC since each name denotes a geographic area and once approved belongs exclusively to that club.
Thus NERHC has become the DVHC or the Delaware Valley Havanese Club. The area encompasses both the Upper Delaware Valley which has its origins in upstate New York around Point Jervis and extends to the Lower Delaware Valley where the river empties into the Atlantic below Philadelphia and Delaware states. The area is bounded on the left by I81 and the North East Extension Rt. 476. On the right the area extends into New Jersey and New York City.
We appreciate your patience during this transition and look forward to seeing you at the shows and the meetings. Remember only the name has changed...the camaraderie, support of newbies and oldies alike and plain fun with our Havs continue.
